Re-Assessing a Drunk DM to Daryl Morey About The Sixers Off-season Plans

With the NBA Finals in full swing, every other team is already looking to next season.

While I think most would disagree, I think the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers are probably one of the few teams that know exactly what they need to do this offseason.

Unlike some moronic WIP callers love to proclaim, blowing up the team this offseason would be as dumb as they are. The value we’d get in return for Embiid or PG would not be worth starting over and the climb back to a point of contention would take years. In contrast, one healthy season with a proper identity and chemistry could yield gold.

IT COULD.

Did the Sixers mishandle this past season?

Yes.

A thousand times yes.

Embiid getting surgery at the end of the year instead of the beginning. Classic Sixers mismanagement. It was obvious they were going nowhere fast, but still, bright spots emerged.  Quentin Grimes. Jarrad McCain. Adam Bona. All gamers. Can McCain and Maxey play together? On offense, sure. Defense, not sure. Can McCain be the prime bucket together on the second unit?

For sure.

Besides health, what does this Sixers team need more than anything?

A defensive-minded, fifth option on offense, power forward, who can make a play when he needs to… I don’t take it back.

BEN SIMMONS.

He’s on a one-year deal that’s worth chump change in comparison to the max contract he got with the Sixers the first go round.

With 3-5 different primetime scorers in Maxey, Embiid, George, Grimes, and McCain, Simmons could play a crucial role as facilitator and offensive rebounder without the pressure of being a second option.

But let’s address the obvious.

This is bigger than basketball.

This isn’t just redemption. This is a second chance at life.

Bringing Ben Simmons back and WINNING would be one of the best basketball stories ever told.

All Simmons needs to do is own it. Laugh at past misfortunes. Shoot a hundred plus free throws a day with a shooting coach, not with a handpicked, coddling group of yes men.

Own it.

Should that happen, I don’t take it back.

The basketball gods would be on our side with this one.

A storybook ending that finishes with a parade.

I even followed up the next morning.
